The places that get the least amount of sun are all in the north of Britain.

The top spot was taken by Bradford in West Yorkshire – which was named the UK’s murkiest city.

The research took into account the average annual temperature, rainfall, wind and the proximity to a beach.

Bradford scraped a miniscule 11.7 points out of 70.

Second and third spots were taken by Blackpool and Aberdeen respectively.

The Yorkshire tourist board defended Bradford and highlighted the cultural value of the area.

Welcome to Yorkshire told the Express: “The vitality of Bradford is hard to ignore. The bright lights of the Alhambra Theatre welcome visitors to see internationally renowned shows such as Hamilton.”

But people on TripAdvisor have mixed reviews.

One user said: “The UNESCO World Heritage site of Saltaire which is a village in Bradford is a fantastic destination to visit.

“But there are many areas of urban deprivation as there are in many places.”

Another said: “I lived there for over 30 years and saw it wax and wane but it is now definitely on the up again!”

“Van Gogh Live recently toured in Bradford bringing the stunning art and light show to thousands of visitors.”

This comes as Bradford was revealed as the winner of the 2025 UK City of Culture.

Blackpool scored only 12.4 out of 70, coming in just ahead of Bradford on the list of sunniest places in the UK.

It was found to be the rainiest town in the country – averaging 1,324mm per year.

This comes after a poll was released showing the top 50 worst places to live in England.

Locals came out in support of their hometown which was recently labelled the worst place to live in the world.

Last year Britain’s happiest and unhappiest towns were revealed.
